ASU named No. 1 innovative-school!

The Arizona State University is the nation’s most innovative school, for the second consecutive year, in a row by U.S. News & World Report, a popular survey that ranks universities in a number of categories.

The 2017 Best College Rankings list compares more than 1,500 institutions on a variety of metrics. The latest review is based on a survey of college presidents, provosts and admissions deans around the nation. ASU has taken the top spot in each year the innovation category has been considered.

The AZCentral reported, the ASU also ranked No. 27 on the list of top business programs, it ranked No. 37 in Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs at schools whose highest degree is a doctorate, No. 61 in Top Public Schools, and No. 86 in Best Colleges for Veterans. It made the list of "A-Plus Schools for B Students," which is not ranked.

ASU President Michael M. Crow said that, “We do things differently, and we constantly try new approaches.”

“Our students’ paths to discovery don’t have to stay within the boundaries of a single discipline. Our researchers team up with colleagues from disparate fields of expertise. We use technology to enhance the classroom and reach around the world. We partner with cities, nonprofits and corporations to support our advances as the higher-education economy evolves. This ranking recognizes the new model we have created.”

Jared Schoepf, who was on a team of undergraduates who launched a startup called SafeSipp, which designed and produces water-purifying devices for developing countries, said that, “ASU provided us with so many opportunities to excel in entrepreneurship and other projects.” “We went to several competitions and we realized that ASU gave us that upper edge to compete.”

Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology took the No. 2 and 3 spots, respectively. The rest of the top 10 includes, Georgia State, University of Maryland Baltimore County, Carnegie Mellon, the Georgia Institute of Technology, Northeastern, Portland State, Purdue and Michigan.
