The Grand Canyon is a steep sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in the states of Arizona in the United States.

Location:

It is situated in the northwest corner of Arizona, close to the border of Utah and Nevada. The Colarado River which flows through the canyon drains water from seven states. Most of the Grand Canyon lies within Grand National Park

Features:

It is one of America’s greatest natural wonders- a spectacular scar in the dusky soil of Arizona. It has been ranked as one of the best-known landmark on the planet by UNESCO.

Its average depth is about 1 mile (1.6 km), 277 miles (446km) long and 18 miles (29km) wide.

The Colorado River cuts through schist, a type of metamorphic rock that is 1.75 billion years old.

Because they are metamorphic rocks, which form from the alteration of other rocks under high temperatures and pressures, these schist represent even more ancient marine and volcanic rocks.

The Grand Canyon is a dwelling for variety of species.

Travel guide:

You can have access to the place by plane, bus, train and car.
