Smoking a lot of pot shows negative impact on the lungs, eyes and trachea, but the new study says it is also linked to the memory degradation or weakening of memory levels. The abnormalities in the mental conditions will be high if the smoking pot goes high in adolescence stage. The findings of the study were published in the journal Hippocampus.

The researchers from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, have observed 97 teenagers with and without mental problems. The teens who smoke the weed, said that they have started inhaling the drug at 16 or 17 and that they have been using pot.

After particular observations the researchers found marijuana users had some brain abnormalities, such as an abnormally-shaped hippocampus, which is the area of the brain used for storing long-term memory. They also performed 18% worse on long-term memory tasks.

Doctor John Csernansky, one of the authors of the study, explained the effects on the remembering capacity or the memory go down after severe addiction to the marijuana.

The researchers said that marijuana causes the differences in hippocampus shape, abnormalities in the brain and memory inability.

The marijuana is useful in preparing some medicines which are used to cure the cancer, nausea and other diseases.
