In an emotional moment, MC Mary Kom, who is the bronze medal winner in Olympics, broke down while accusing the Indian selectors for showing regional bias during the selection and trails for boxing. However, Mary Kom insisted that she took it in her stride.

Teary-eyed Mary Kom said that, “Sometimes I feel very upset. Some of the referees and judges do not favor me but I don’t mind. Okay I am from north-east, but I am still an Indian.”

The allegation from the 32-year-old boxer was that selectors repeatedly favored Pinky Jangra from Haryana even after being beaten by the Manipur’s five-time world champion. Pinky Jangra competes with Mary Kom in the same weight category.

“There are so many controversies. I always defeat Pinky Jangra and prove it to get a gold medal in every competition but they (boxing selectors) continue to support her,” the Olympic bronze medal winner said.

“It is still okay. I will prove myself in the ring,” she added.

In 2014, Mary Kom who won the London Olympics medal was dropped from the Indian contingent at the Commonwealth Games, while the selectors have picked Jangra in her place. Even though Mary was beaten by Pinky in the trail of 51kg category prior to the Commonwealth Games, it was claimed by the boxer of Manipuri as poor judgment.
