US president Obama has given the green signal for chemical weapons-related assistance to Syria on Monday. Helping the Middle Eastern country protect themselves against any future attack seems to be the latest agenda.

The war torn country's opposition, healthcare community and several international organizations will receive assistance from the US for a better response to possible attacks, as many still believe that the country has not seen the last of the infamous chemical attacks.

Obama's government was ready to attack the country to put an end to the deadly attacks. However, widespread criticism towards the chemical weapons attack that happened only a month ago deterred the US from taking any lethal action to strip Syria of all chemical weapons.

Assistance encompasses personal protective equipment to international organizations within Syria, protective equipment and defensive chemical weapons training to the opposition and strengthening local healthcare providers with medical assistance.

Syrian President Bashar Assad allegedly has reserves of dangerous gases such as the sarin gas used in the previous attack. The Syrian government was widely believed to have perpetrated the attack. The country is now required to present an inventory of its chemical weapons program in 7 days. By next July, the program is expected to be destroyed completely.
