Prescott woman Kayla Mueller killed in airstrike ?Top Stories

Idealistic 26-year-old woman from Prescott, Arizona feared dead in airstrikes by a Jordanian warplane aimed at IS militants around Raqa city in Syria.

IS websites confirmed her identity as Kayla Jean Mueller, and said she was buried under rubble. Her identity had always been the unidentified, for nearly 17 months she was the captive of IS extremists, while her fellow American captives were beheaded one after another in serial executions and posted on YouTube.

"The plane from the crusader coalition bombed a position outside the city of Raqa after Friday prayers," IS said. "No fighter was wounded but we can confirm that an American hostage was killed in the strikes." It added.

However, the IS statement did not show any pictures of a body and there was no independent confirmation of the claim.

The United States said it has not yet seen any proof to confirm the IS claim. "We are obviously deeply concerned by these reports. We have not at this time seen any evidence that corroborates ISIL's claim," said National Security Council spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan.

Mueller has posted her video pledging support to the refugees and voice against ISIS some two years ago.
