International Yoga Day 2017 at Arizona

Third International Yoga Day was celebrated at Arizona on Saturday the 24th of June 2017 at Indo-American community center, 2809 W. Maryland Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85017.

The program was attended by yoga enthusiasts in large number. The yoga demonstration by Madhavan dhamotharan was informative as well as interesting. A special session for Kids yoga was also conducted on the occasion.

 

The event had overwhelming response with more than 300 registrations and was organized in 3 big event Halls. More than 200+ adults and more than 75 kids enthusiastically attended and participated in this, probably the largest yoga event organized in Arizona.

Yoga is inspired by a master who is called Guru. Guru is a Sanskrit word for dispeller of darkness. The Guru is the principle and energy source which brings light into the life of a disciple.

Veda and Tantra are the basic philosophies and systems that have given rise to various schools of thoughts and traditions. These schools include Samkhya, Vedanta, Advaita Vedanta, Vishishthadvaita, Yoga Darshan, Buddhism, Jainism, Vaisheshik, Uttar mimamsa, Saivism, Shakta and many others. Many types of Yoga came from these various paths, mainly Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga of Bhagvada Gita, Jnana Yoga, Ashtanga yoga and Hatha Yoga.

The recent history of Yoga can be traced to Patanjali (500 BC), Adi Shankaracharya (8th century AD), Matsyendranath and Gorakshanath (6 to 8 century AD).

Yoga can be defined as perfect movements. This includes all the parts of the body, through various requirements of movements. It can be classified as, Pre-Position, Neck Movement, Shoulder Movement, Hand Movement, Leg Movement, Knee Movement and also the perfect way of breathing.

There are several joints in our body, which needs lubrication and movements to work properly. The food we consume supplies the lubrication for our body and Yoga and other activities provide the movements of our body. In our regular life, some of these joints are overused and some are rarely used, which may create problems at a later stage in your life due to wear and tear. To make these joints maintain their healthy condition, basic movements are necessary.

UN assembly has decided to observe June 21st as the International Yoga day for the health of people world over. This decision was taken as per the request of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The day was started observing from 2015.
