Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar hosted the Juhanon Mar Thoma Lecture to which Kurian Joseph, Supreme Court judge, was invited as the chief guest. He allayed the fears of the small crowd of Indian Christians, raised through questions. The questions indicated the insecurity of the minority community across India. Giving them hope, Kurian pointed the way through which they can fight rightwing Hindutva forces.

Urging fellow Christians to be faithful towards the Constitution of India, Justice Kurian spoke about the time and Jesus Christ’s life at an auditorium addressing the crowd of devout Christians. He said, “If you want to be a true Christian you have to be a true Indian nationalist.”

Talking about the communalism and dealing with it as an answer to a posed question from the youth, Justice Kurian said one of the big problems in India today is communalism, which can only be dealt through humanism.

Justice Kurian said, "Christians must engage more in social work not for initiating conversion but for the uplift of the poor people. We have to look at the person and recognize that he is the creation of God. It’s the only way to respond to that [religious hatred against Christians].”

“Let’s think about the person in real need. Let’s help him and have people like him cross the communal barriers,” Kurian said.
