In a Northern Arizona University on-campus shooting early Friday morning, one student died and three others were wounded. Monday marked the first day of classes for many of the Northern Arizona University's 21,000 students after the fatal shooting that has rocked the campus. Handmade signs of support with the hashtag #NAUSTRONG seemed to multiply on walls and windows.

“Many students who live at the Mountain View residence hall on the Flagstaff campus saw what happened because their windows overlook the parking lot where the shootings took place,” said Troy Campbell, the building's manager.

NAU junior Colin Brough, of Castle Rock, Colo., died after being shot twice. Three other students, Nicholas Prato of San Diego, Kyle Zientek of Glendale and Nicholas Piring of Chandler, were seriously injured.

NAU President Rita Cheng wants the campus and the community to "move forward, not to forget, but to remember who we are and what we mean to each other, by marching together.”

NAU Police Chief Greg Fowler described that the shootings came after, what as a confrontation between "student groups." Police said 18-year-old freshman Steven Jones retrieved a gun from his car and fired multiple shots that has struck four people at about 1:20 a.m. on Friday. Jones, who grew up in Glendale, is charged with one count of first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated assault. He's being held on a $2 million bond.
