Nikki Haley proud of her Indian Heritage

Indian-origin Nikki Haley said that she has “no regrets” in her job as the United States envoy to the United Nations.

Haley in a session at the ‘Women in the World Summit’ said “No, there are no regrets,” when she was asked, if she has any regrets in her job.

The 45-year-old was speaking at the Summit, which is a premier annual gathering of influential women leaders, politicians and activists on Wednesday. The event was organized by media personality Tina Brown in association with the New York Times.

She always speaks proudly about her Indian heritage, bringing it up during her speeches and interactions.

This week, while addressing reporters at the United Nations headquarters, Haley brought up her Indian heritage, when asked about her qualities of being able to speak so freely and openly.

"Every position that I have ever had, people have assumed that I am looking towards something big, when in reality I am the daughter of Indian parents, who said to me 'whatever you do be great at it and make sure people remember you for it'," Haley said.

She said that she is one of two brothers and a sister and her parents raised them all to be strong.

“That is all I am trying to do. That is all I have ever known how to be is to try and just do my job to the best of my ability and if that comes out blunt and if that comes out strong”, she added.

Haley said that she liked her new job as the United States envoy to the United Nations.

She likes the job because one can move the ball. It is not just talking, she said, a person can actually negotiate and can actually change things, she added.
She also said that she talked to President Donald Trump in the morning, adding that she visits Washington at least once in a week for the National Security Council meetings.
