Phoenix Remembers 9/11 Rescuers and Victims

Sep11th,2001 American citizens can’t forget this day even if they want to. This day has left many scars on people’s heart. The pain of losing your loved ones can never be forgotten, City of Phoenix organized a ceremony in remembrance of 2,997 people killed in New York City.

The 16th Annual September 11th Memorial Event at Phoenix City Hall included the posting of an American Flag that flew over Ground Zero during the rescue and recovery operation at World Trade Center.

"We were getting ready to discuss breakfast and all of a sudden every 911 line lit up and we knew something happened", said Joseph Epstein, who was a dispatcher during that time.

He also said,"I can still hear things in my head, voices, Manhattan units calling for help on the Queens radio because they couldn't get through it and they were getting buried".

September 11th 2001 attack is marked as worst terrorist attack in U.S history. David Salvador is a NYC detective, he remembered the dozens of personal friends that he lost.

Salvador said this week every year I remember staying at Ground Zero. "It's hard. Sometimes you deal with survivors remorse. You remember the sites, the sounds, the smells never go away. You kind of relive that day every single year."

16 Years later, city of Phoenix employees honored and remembered those lost. Attendees paid their respect to the Victims and Survivors of 9/11 at the annual event. The Police and Fire Honor Guards joined together to play “Amazing Grace” and perform a bell ceremony.

"Up in heaven, God, We have a great fire department up there now," said Epstein.

This Ceremony is in remembrance of those thousands of innocent people who died and bravery of those people who ran into crumbling building not knowing if they’d run out.
