Astronaut who tweeted from space spoke with students in Tempe

Twitter has always been an open platform to share opinions what if those opinions are shared from outer space? That’s huge right. Around 7 years ago in 2009 astronaut Michael Massimino has tweeted his first tweet from outer space.

On Friday Michael visited Corona del Sol High School to talk about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. He shared his outer spaces experiences with students.

Michael said, “I got to fly twice on the shuttle to the Hubble Space Telescope, got to spacewalk in each of my missions that’s an extraordinary thing to do”.

He said encourage students to pursue math and science as a career if that’s what they’re interested in if they are interested in something else that’s great too.

He also said that the first tweet was sent in 2009 from the space shuttle, what we did was contact with the ground and send that tweet through an email, which was sent through a satellite system.

Till date, we can see that outer space tweet in Michael’s verified Twitter account.

He said, Social media has also played a huge role in the space program, it makes it more accessible to people, my friends in outer space are no tweeting and using Instagram, it’s a great way to communicate with people.
