The disappointing outcome of War 2 has caused concern within Yash Raj Films (YRF), prompting the studio to reconsider its well-publicized Spy Universe initiative. The film featuring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, which was expected to be a big hit, had a decent start but quickly lost traction, finding it hard to exceed the Rs 300 crore threshold globally. Reports now indicate that YRF has decided to abandon its ambitious idea of making a solo film centered on Jr NTR’s character, Agent Vikram. A source shared with Bollywood Hungama, “YRF had big plans to take advantage of Jr NTR's popularity across India and create a spin-off for Agent Vikram. The creative team was already working on a standalone movie, but War 2's failure has stalled everything.”

Insider information suggests that Aditya Chopra has opted not to pursue the Agent Vikram film anymore, choosing instead to focus on altering the direction of the Spy Universe. It is said that Chopra communicated this decision to Jr NTR directly, who agreed to it and left the project on good terms. The source added, “The Agent Vikram film is no longer a practical choice, and Adi has explained this to Jr NTR. The Man of Masses also concurred with Adi and has departed from the banner on a very positive note.” The planned standalone film was one of the main reasons why Jr NTR agreed to join War 2, making this news particularly important. Despite high hopes, War 2 experienced a significant drop in performance after the first few days. By day 12, the film earned only Rs 1.01 crore, which is a significant decline from its original figures. Current estimates show the film's net earnings in India at Rs 223.01 crore.

The movie is expected to be available for streaming on Netflix after its time in theaters, although the exact release date for OTT has not been revealed yet. Usually, Bollywood hits become available on streaming services six to eight weeks post-launch. Meanwhile, YRF is moving forward with Alpha, which stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari and is scheduled for a Christmas 2025 release. With the cancellation of the Agent Vikram spin-off, everyone's attention is now on how Aditya Chopra will reshape the Spy Universe following this disappointment.
