What does this narrow road show?

Seven contemporary Japanese artists take viewers on a voyage, both earthly and spiritual, through their photographs, paintings, installations and sculptures, each incorporating humble materials such as wood, paper, mirrors, ash and stone.

The exhibit is named after a 17th century Zen Buddhist literary work, Narrow Road to the Interior, by poet Matsuo Basho. These works seek to reflect the peaceful rhythm of the haiku poetry form and display the meditative nature that is central to the Japanese cultures ancient rituals and ceremonies. Artists include Noriko Ambe, Hiroshi Senju and Yoshiko Shimano. Narrow Road to the Interior
