Superstar Rajinikanth was all excited to team up with Kamal Haasan's production house Raaj Kamal Films International. Tentatively titled Thalaivar 173, the film was announced in a grand manner and Sundar C was on board to direct this prestigious project. But in a sudden shock, Sundar walked out of the project and he issued an apology. Soon, Tamil media started speculating several names and Kamal Haasan made it clear that an announcement about the director will be made very soon.

The names of Lokesh Kanagaraj, Ramkumar Balakrishnan, Nithilan Saminathan and Ashwath Marimuthu were speculated. The makers made an official announcement today about the director. Don fame Cibi Chakravarthy has been finalized to direct Rajinikanth. He recently narrated the script and impressed Rajinikanth. The shooting formalities will start this year after Rajinikanth completes the shoot of Jailer 2. Raaj Kamal Films International will make the announcement about the names of actors and technicians. The film releases in 2027.
