Indian cricket team's star player Abhishek Sharma has been taken to the hospital because of a stomach infection and may not be able to play in the T20 World Cup game against Namibia, as per a report. Before the group match with Namibia on Thursday, the report mentioned that he had been feeling unwell even before the last game against the USA, and his health got worse after that match. It was said that Abhishek had a high fever and needed drips for quick assistance. The left-handed opener missed the practice session with the team at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. “Abhi (Abhishek) is still dealing with some stomach issues. We are optimistic that he will be ready for the game in two days,” assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate informed the press on Tuesday. In the match against the USA, Abhishek got out without scoring and did not participate when India was bowling. Sanju Samson took his place on the field for the entire innings. The young player did not even come out for handshaking after his team won the match.
"Abhishek has been hospitalized in a private facility in Delhi due to a stomach infection. Some tests are being conducted to find out what’s wrong. It is not yet known if he will leave the hospital today. However, the match against Namibia seems uncertain right now," a source from BCCI stated. In the meantime, Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed that Washington Sundar joined the Indian team for their second group-stage match against Namibia on February 12. During a press conference in Delhi on Tuesday, Doeschate also gave updates about important players, including Jasprit Bumrah's fitness status.
“Sundar joined the team yesterday, and he'll practice with the squad today,” Doeschate said. He continued, “Bumrah has been bowling after a break of ten days, and he is feeling much better. He is moving well and will bowl again today. ”
Looking back at India's recent victory over the USA, Doeschate praised Suryakumar Yadav’s winning performance. “Thankfully, our captain performed well. He hasn't had the best year, but that's why he has strong support around him. His leadership and dependability showed in how he played and helped the team last week,” said India’s assistant coach.
