The Nothing Phone 3 is set to make its global debut on July 1, coinciding with the launch of the Nothing Headphone 1. The firm has recently announced that the new smartphone will forgo the Glyph Interface in favor of an updated Glyph Matrix. In a recent conversation, Adam Bates, the Head of Design at Nothing, elaborated on the reasoning behind this transition and what customers can anticipate from the revised interface. The Phone 3 is confirmed to feature the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset.

During an interview with Design Milk, Bates indicated that the Glyph Matrix aims to preserve the core elements of the original Glyph Interface while enhancing efficiency. Instead of the previous larger LED light strips used in earlier devices, the smaller Glyph Matrix is designed as a compact circular array located at the upper right corner of the rear panel, utilizing a cluster of micro-LEDs. This innovative design is expected to enable pixel-level animations, symbolic graphics, and dynamic lighting that syncs with audio and user interactions. Bates mentioned that the micro-LED cluster allows for more programming flexibility compared to the earlier segmented LED strips, which had limitations in this area. This new configuration will also permit users to customize lighting effects for various applications and notifications. Beyond aesthetics, the new smaller Glyph Matrix is reported to enable better hardware arrangement by optimizing internal space. Interestingly, the dot-matrix display on the Nothing Phone 3 bears a resemblance to the AniMe Vision feature found on the Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro.

The Nothing Phone 3 will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 SoC. Users can expect five years of operating system upgrades along with seven years of security updates. The device is rumored to come equipped with three 50-megapixel cameras on the back, including a periscope telephoto lens and an ultrawide angle option, while it is also expected to feature a 50-megapixel front-facing camera. Battery life is anticipated to be supported by a 5,150mAh capacity, and the display will likely be a 6.7-inch 1.5K LTPO OLED screen.
