Google Photos is introducing multiple new AI features and is also making existing ones available in more countries, as stated by the company on Tuesday. One of the key updates from the the tech company based in Mountain View is the addition of the Nano Banana image editing model to the app's editing tools. They have also included a new Ask button that allows users to interact with their images by asking questions in a conversational way. Some features are currently only available in the US, while others are being expanded to additional areas. In a blog entry, the tech company shared five fresh updates regarding Google Photos. The newly added and improved features concentrate on three main aspects: editing, creating, and searching. Last month, it was announced that Google Photos would soon incorporate Nano Banana features, and now users can finally start using these capabilities.
Users can access Nano Banana's functions in the image editor of Google Photos. By clicking the Help me edit button, they can now make more intricate requests that were not possible before. For example, they can ask the AI to “create a Renaissance-style portrait of me” or “recreate my image as a mosaic with colorful tiles.” Essentially, any adjustments that Gemini can perform using the Nano Banana tool are now doable right in the app. It is important to note that Google did not specify if this feature is launching in specific locations or worldwide, but it indicated that it is currently only accessible for Android users. For iOS users in the US, the company has begun releasing the Help me edit feature, which enables image modifications using either text or voice commands. However, because this does not involve Nano Banana, users will only have access to the regular editing features of the app. Moreover, a revamped photo editor is also being introduced for iPhone users.
Earlier this year, the company introduced a new Create tab in Google Photos. This section features all the various AI tools available to the user for easy access. Now, they have added a new AI templates option to this tab. Powered by Nano Banana, these templates allow users to generate images based on popular edits. For instance, users can upload their own photo and choose the “high fashion photoshoot” template to have it transformed into that style. Users do not need to provide text prompts for this mode. This feature will initially be available in India and the US for Android and will start rolling out this week. Google has pointed out that in the weeks to come, they also intend to introduce a personalization aspect to the feature, which will utilize insights from users’ photo galleries and recommend unique edits based on their interests and experiences. This will first be released in the US.
The business is introducing a new Ask button to the pictures in the Google Photos collection. This button brings up a text area where users can talk about the image’s content, search for similar images, or explain the modifications. Lastly, Ask Photos, the feature that allows talking about image searches, is being launched in over 100 nations and 17 additional languages.
