Mappls, the local digital mapping and navigation application by MapMyIndia, is enhancing its features by adding routes for various public transportation options. As stated by the company on Tuesday, users will now have access to information regarding metro, train, and bus routes right within the app. This addition is expected to further solidify Mappls as a complete mobility platform that offers multiple types of transport. MapMyIndia mentioned that this new feature will combine experiences from both private and public transportation into one app. With this new update, travelers will be able to see the routes, stations, stops, and transfer points for public transport. This can help them plan their trips in a more effective and eco-friendly way, according to a press release from the company.
The multimodal public transport routes feature is available in selected cities, which include Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Indore, Patna, Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Jaipur, Kochi, and Bhopal. “The introduction of multimodal public transport routes on the Mappls App is a result of listening to what our users have to say. We want the Mappls App to be more user-friendly and available to everyone," said Rakesh Verma, Co-Founder, Chairman, and Managing Director at MapMyIndia Mappls, in a statement. According to the company, this feature is currently available on the iOS and web versions of Mappls, with plans to release it for Android devices soon. Mappls also stated that its user base has exceeded 40 million, and the improved public transport features are aimed at making daily travel easier for city commuters.
The recently introduced public transport routes enhance Mappls' current features, which include turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates, safety notifications, and smart routing. By making public transport information more visible, the company hopes to promote greater use of mass transit options. This could help to ease traffic, reduce pollution, and support cleaner transportation in cities. Recently, MapMyIndia has shown interest in collaborating with Perplexity AI. It has also highlighted its vast experience in creating maps for both cities and rural areas since 1995. After launching this feature, the company plans to keep collaborating with transport authorities and partners to broaden public transport options in various cities.
