Arizona baby burned by hose water

A 9-month-old Arizona boy left with second-degree burns over 30 percent of his body after his mother unknowingly sprayed him with scalding hot water while filling up a play pool.

KNXV reported that, the mother of child, Dominique Woodger of San Tan Valley, said that, she was unaware of the water’s temperature when she turned on the faucet, as it had been sitting in the sun all day.

“It’s heartbreaking. It is. It sucks,” Dominique Woodger said. "All of it was peeling. He had blisters all over the right side."

“I thought he was crying because he was mad, he hates when he gets sprayed in the face.” “I didn’t think that it was burning him,” Woodger said. She noticed that, his skin turned red and had begun blistering on his right side.

According to the Phoenix Fire Department Capt. Larry Subveri, just 10 seconds of exposure to water at that temperature can result in a second-degree burn.

"So at those temperatures, something as short as a 10 or 30 second exposure can result in a second-degree burn,” Subervi said.

“Just be careful. Touch it before you let your kids near it,” Woodger said.
