The second wave of coronavirus proved that there is a huge scarcity for vaccine doses in the country considering the Indian population. Around 11 crore people of the country received both doses of coronavirus and the vaccination drive is going on a slow note. The Serum Institute of India which happens to be the manufacturer of Covishield confirmed that some of the vaccine vials that are reported at the patient level in the country are fake and these reports are confirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO). There are strong speculations that fake vials of Covishield are circulated in the country and doubts were risen about the genuineness of Covishield.

These fake vaccine vials are reported to WHO in July and August. These fake vials are traced in the African region along with the South-East Asian region. These were reported from the patient level in India and Uganda. WHO revealed that the falsified coronavirus vaccines are a real threat and serious risk for the global health system and these bring an additional burden on the vulnerable populations and health systems. These falsified vaccines should be detected at a fast pace from circulation and they have to be removed at the earliest. Some of the vials are available in 2ml and SII never produced Covishield in 2ml doses.

WHO asked the country to increase the vigilance among the supply chains of the countries. The government should alert the hospitals, clinics, health centers, wholesalers, distributors, pharmacies. WHO also urged people not to use fake products and all those who are suffering from adverse reactions should consult a doctor at the earliest.
