At least 69 individuals lost their lives, and 169 sustained injuries when a suicide bomber blew himself up inside a religious site in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad. The blast took place at Tarlai Imambargah, located in the Shehzad Town district of the city. As reported by Pakistani media, the bomber set off explosives at the main entrance of the Shia temple during the afternoon. The Times of Islamabad, citing security sources, mentioned that the attacker seemed to be stopped by vigilant guards at the gate, preventing him from entering the main area where worshippers were present. Even with the guards' intervention, video clips from the site showed that the explosion caused significant damage to the entrance structure, broke windows of nearby buildings, and left debris scattered on the street. The footage also revealed deceased victims, some of whom were dismembered.
After the explosion, the Islamabad Inspector General of Police announced an emergency across the city while rescue and law enforcement teams hurried to the location amid concerns of many casualties, The Times of Islamabad reported. The injured individuals are being transported to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Polyclinic Hospital. This tragedy happened less than three months after a suicide bombing outside a court building in Islamabad on November 11, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of twelve people and caused injuries to over 30 others. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack at a Shia mosque in Islamabad on Friday, which resulted in at least 69 deaths. He expressed his "deep sorrow" and "strong condemnation" of the blast that also injured at least 80 individuals, a statement revealed.
