Huawei has officially introduced the Huawei Pura X Max, which signals a significant change in the design of foldable smartphones. Unlike the tall, slim style that most current devices have, this new phone features a broader format. Reports indicate that this device is among the first modern efforts to create a horizontally wide foldable, putting Huawei ahead of competitors like Samsung and Apple in what may be the future direction of foldable smartphones. The design approach of the Huawei Pura X Max is quite different. Rather than unfolding to reveal a tall, tablet-like screen, it opens up into a more compact and wider tablet shape, making it better for activities like watching videos, multitasking, and gaming. Initial details suggest that the foldable will come with a 7.69-inch internal display and a 5.5-inch outer screen, which aligns well with the trend toward wider foldable designs in the industry. This change could resolve longstanding issues with traditional foldables, particularly in terms of app scaling and ease of use with one hand when it is folded.
The inner screen is expected to have a WQHD+ resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio, providing a more balanced viewing experience compared to the narrow dimensions seen in current foldables. In terms of appearance, the device takes on a short and wide shape with a triple-camera arrangement on the back. Early renderings also hint at a slight crease along the fold, showing continued enhancements in hinge and screen durability. While complete specifications have not been confirmed yet, leaks suggest Huawei will use its own Kirin 9030 chipset for the Pura X Max, which should offer better performance and energy efficiency compared to earlier versions. The camera features are also anticipated to be a key focus, with hints at a system that includes a telephoto lens as part of Huawei’s advanced photography technology, continuing the brand's strong commitment to mobile photography. The battery might also see a significant boost, possibly reaching up to 6000mAh, though this information has not been confirmed yet.
A standout feature of the Pura X Max is its introduction timing. With Samsung and Apple also rumored to be working on similar wide foldable models, Huawei's prompt reveal positions it as a leader in this new market segment. Huawei has begun pre-orders for the Pura X Max in China, but details regarding availability and pricing in other countries are still uncertain. In places like Malaysia, how soon it becomes available might depend on Huawei's overall launch strategy, especially considering ongoing factors like software support and app compatibility.
