On Monday, an IndiGo flight, 6E 1433, flying from Kannur to Abu Dhabi, had to change its course and land in Ahmedabad. This was because a very large volcanic eruption happened in Ethiopia, the first one in about 10,000 years, which experts say is a very unusual event for that area. The Airbus plane landed without problems in Ahmedabad, and IndiGo stated it would arrange a flight back to Kannur for the passengers. This disruption happened because ash clouds from Ethiopia's Hayli Gubbi volcano, which erupted Sunday after almost 10,000 years of quiet, were expected to spread toward northern India, creating worries for planes flying through that region.

Indian flight regulators and airlines are watching to see how this might affect flights over Delhi and Jaipur from Monday evening, and some planes have already altered their paths to stay away from the ash. Akasa Air stated in a warning that it is closely monitoring the volcano, following global aviation rules, and that passenger safety is its most important concern. The Hayli Gubbi volcano, situated in Ethiopia's Erta Ale Range, released huge amounts of ash and sulfur dioxide into the air on Sunday morning.

The ash cloud, which was between 10 and 15 kilometers high, traveled east over the Red Sea. This ash has already impacted parts of Oman and Yemen, leading to warnings for the environment and air travel.

The Khaleej Times reports that Oman's Environment Authority issued a warning about potential dangers from volcanic gas and ash. However, their 68 monitoring stations, including 8 in Dhofar and 5 in Al Wusta, have not yet found higher levels of pollution. Officials stated that people can check current air quality on the nation's "Naqi" system. Even though the eruption happened far away, its size was so great that aviation officials had to issue warnings because the cloud reached heights where airplanes fly, extending over Yemen and Oman and continuing eastward.
