The Ministry of Tourism has published the Annual Tourism Report 2025, which provides key data and insights on foreign tourist arrivals in India, departures of Indian nationals and estimated foreign exchange earnings (EFE) from tourism. According to the report, 3.27 million Indians will travel abroad in 2025. Leisure travel has become the main driver of outbound tourism in India, accounting for 43.5 percent of all international travel. Other main reasons include visits related to the Indian diaspora (34.1 percent), business trips (14.6 percent), pilgrimages (3.7 percent) and other reasons (1.3 percent). The report notes that 1.43 crore Indians will have traveled abroad solely for pleasure by 2025. In comparison, 41.4% of outbound travelers took leisure trips in 2023, representing 1.15 crore people. This trend suggests that leisure travel has become a growing priority for Indian overseas travelers, reflecting a growing desire to explore international destinations for personal enjoyment. AI-powered travel operator Thrillophilia's 2025 Multi-Day Travel Index highlights a mature leisure travel market where Indian travelers of all budgets and age groups are increasingly prioritizing reliability, convenience and deeper experiences over discounts or number of destinations covered.

Leisure travel is all about taking time off from work and going just for fun - whether to explore a new city, relax on the beach or just disconnect for a while. You can travel as a family, as a couple, with a group of friends or even go on a solo adventure. Think of it all, good food, lazy afternoons and discover local experiences at your own pace. Unlike business trips, where meetings and schedules dictate your every move, leisure travel gives you complete freedom to choose where to go, what to do and how to spend your time. As digital travel platforms become smarter and more seamless, vacation planning has never been easier. Flights, hotels, activities, everything can be booked with a few clicks. Many companies also allow travelers to extend their business trips for personal vacations, a growing trend called "hazing," where business meets leisure. The world of leisure travel is large and dynamic, including airlines, hotels, cruises and tour operators. Today's travelers like to get the best value for their money and often rely on loyalty programs, seasonal offers and packages to stretch their budget while enjoying a memorable and experiential vacation.
