In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, there is considerable speculation regarding India's potential response. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting today with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, as reported by sources. This discussion comes just a day after the Prime Minister conversed with Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh. Up to this point, Modi has engaged with the heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force as the government strategizes its approach to address Pakistan, which is suspected of being linked to the attack that resulted in the fatalities of 26 innocent people. It's been twelve days since armed militants ruthlessly killed 25 tourists along with a pony ride operator in Baisaran Valley located in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam. The shocking nature of this attack has incited widespread outrage across the country. Modi has issued a stern warning that those who planned and executed the assault will face consequences beyond their imagination.
India has initiated several diplomatic measures against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and the cessation of visa services for Pakistani citizens. Furthermore, the number of personnel at Pakistan’s diplomatic missions in India has been reduced, sending a clear signal from New Delhi to Islamabad. In response, Pakistan warned that any attempt to halt water flow would be viewed as an act of war and threatened to terminate all bilateral agreements, including the Simla Agreement, which pertains to breaches along the Line of Control. Over the last few days, Prime Minister Modi has convened numerous meetings involving Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and key officials from the security sector. Indicating the direction India may take next, Defence Minister Singh reassured the public yesterday that “what you desire will certainly happen” under the guidance of Prime Minister Modi.
"The security of India as a nation has always been guaranteed by our valiant soldiers... As Defence Minister, it is my obligation to collaborate with my troops to safeguard the nation's borders and to respond appropriately to those who threaten our sovereignty," he stated.
