Mohsin Naqvi grabbed attention for taking the Asia Cup 2025 Trophy in Dubai on Sunday, September 28. The president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) left the Dubai International Cricket Stadium with the trophy after India declined to accept it from him following their 5-wicket victory over Pakistan in the final match. In the midst of the drama surrounding the Asia Cup 2025 final, Pakistan is reportedly planning to honor Naqvi. It has been stated that Naqvi will receive a special gold medal for his strong position during the trophy handover dispute with India. According to available details, Naqvi is about to receive the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Excellence Gold Medal in Karachi. This award is being presented to him for his "strong and principled position" against India's requests during the Asia Cup final. As mentioned by The Nation, Advocate Ghulam Abbas Jamal, president of the Karachi Basketball Association, has announced this award for Naqvi. The Nation reports that the medal will be given to Naqvi at a significant ceremony in Karachi, where Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the PPP Chairman, is expected to be the main guest.
ACC Chairman Naqvi stated on Wednesday that the Indian team is "welcome" to pick up the Asia Cup trophy from him at the ACC’s office in Dubai. In a post shared on X, Naqvi denied claims that he apologized to BCCI officials at the ACC Annual General Meeting on Tuesday for his actions during the presentation ceremony on Sunday, when he took the trophy after the Indians refused to accept it. "As ACC President, I was prepared to hand over the trophy that same day and I am still ready to do so. If they genuinely want it, they can come to the ACC office and get it from me," he wrote. “Let me be very clear: I have done nothing wrong and I have never apologized to the BCCI, nor will I ever do that," he added. Ashish Shelar and Rajeev Shukla represented the BCCI in the ACC AGM where they strongly objected to the trophy not being properly handed over to the Suryakumar Yadav-led team, who defeated Pakistan in the final.
